The shou must GO on : Indian Idol
02.05.05 (9:23 pm)   [edit]
Visitors for my blog have made me realise with their mails that the show must go on and I should follow Indian Idol till the last episode. Now lets start it with the mails I got:

I support your view fully. Unfortunately, our so-called judges want to show that western attitude. Indian Idol is not about looks but the voice. Something, which should attract everyone. In American Idol, twice the blacks have won the idol. However, unfortunately in India it is discrimination between high society and low...Even though he was a painter he did work hard. Maybe he was not fit to be an idol but that does not mean he has to be ill-treated. In fact, Sonu has no right to say to him that he is the cause for the good singers getting out. Otherwise, why will he get out? Believe me.. Music doesn’t mean Hindi, it also includes a lot of languages from north and south.. I hope he does come up in the later stages becoz of his voice. He surely cannot afford training becoz of his financial status. but appreciate him becoz he worked hard.

I hope in future Indian Idol select more experience judges like Alka Yagnik or experience Music Directors like...... Gulzar , Javed Akhtar and not judges who go for color of skin or looks of mod...I wish the others the best of luck for the rest of the episode.
Ramya

Your ideas about Ravinder are correct he was a great singer. I also didn’t like the judges attitude towards him, a person from such a humble background could do so much was really commendable. I am also very upset but just do let me know if possible is he going back to the same life or will he get sufficient money to improve his lifestyle & see better days.
Arati

Indian idol is great show except the hyperbolic comments of judges. They shower so much praise on some of their favorites and criticize too much the poor Ravinder. I feel the judges and host show some respect for the participant who has reached the level of last five. This is indirectly a insult to viewers who have voted Ravinder till last five rounds. It is true then Ravinder was better than Prajakta in last round where he lost to Prajakta. I respect his maturity and patience and wonder how the other participants will
keep thier moral high if such nasty unwanted comments are passed against them.I personally feel for some types of songs Ravinder's voice is best among all the contestants and his handwork and luck will help him to come at the top.

Why u and others like u, making joke of the show. At last Ravi is out, he no
deserving contestant in Indian Idol and should be there in last 30. He is
not trained and a painter, that pitiable point...what Indian immaturities.
he has no sur and versatility. Many suffered not becoz of him but bcoz of
fools voted for him. Sony has made a mistake of sending multiple votes by
one rule. if u a music lover, u should have knowledge of music...!
What a joke with other talents!
The Karvs
My Thoughts: Who brought Ravinder in first 10? It was these judges only. So why this much shout that he was not deserving and he should be in last 30. This seems sticky.

Dear Readers,

Let's ope our mind and think and keep this discussion open. I see the sentiments are widely divided.

1. Some say, the results were rigged, judges made mistakes. Some thinks more talented people should get a chance.

2. Other half is of the opinion at the end of the day only better singers r left for the rest of the show.

I am not getting the following questiones cleared.

1. I am wondering what could be Sonu Nigams allibi except expressing that Ravinder has been a bad choice - being his honest opinion. He is a singer himself, what does he gain out of this ? Sonu has done some marvelous task of bringing the frontline singers like 'Shreya Ghoshal' from TVS Sa Re Ga Ma. Whay would he oppose Ravinder ? Expression of honest opinion cannot be a mistake!

2. What is the fault of Aditi Paul - who is by far a much better singer. I guess she is not a painter...

Thanks-

Some american idols are black ... is a rubish reason. American music is dominated by blacks .... they have always been by far the best.....

So the point is made, the ommision of Ravi is in the best interest of the music. However I think his voice will definitely suit some typical [ayback music. Hope the nation remembers him and he gets some chances in the industry ..........

I loved the journey that Ravinder took over the Indian Idol stage. But at the end of the day the public has made the right choice. He's probably little deficient to get into the top-league.

I guess Ravinder Ravi did get a fair dela in terms of success thanks to the program....what was wrong though was the fact tht he was criticised over and over again..for no fault of his..coz even if he does not sing well, its the people who vote for him, and not he who votes for himself.
Also, if you do note that Ravnider was being isolated by the other contestants, probabl;y as they felt that they were getting thrown out coz of him.
Aditi and Rahul Saxena were both good, but then they had to go.
And frankly speaking, Ravinder has done enough to ensure that the Punjabi and Folk Music guys do take note of him, and help him lead a better career. With due respect to his singing, i think that the four remaining in this program, do have three of the best singers, i.e. Amit Sana (amazing true original voice), Abhijeet (vibrant and getting better every week) and Rahul(good choice of songs and range too).
Lets wish all these 3 the best of luck, and let the best mannn win.

Definitely it was not fair to send out Ravinder this time since he sang better than prajakta and a more difficult song. Anu's comment that Indian Idol will be a girl shows the heavy bias in favor of prajakta which the judges have. It was devastating that Aditi had to go cos she was the better singer among the girls ( unfortunately not as Glamourous in her looks as Prajakta).

I am glad that Ravinder Ravi is out. I am not a trained singer at all, but I think even a semi-deag person would realize that Ravinder was TOTALLY going out of sur, taal, EVERYTHING. Voting for him, was purely on a an emotionl level, trying to prove to the world that an untrained printer can be an Indian Idol. Agreed, that in one round, I was amazed at the way he sang "Chura Liya hai Tumne". My votes totally go to : in this order: Rahul Vaidya, Abhijeet Sawant (a tough tie between the 2), then Amit Sana and Prajakata (she has faltered in the last round of ole songs!!). Hey well, just my two bits, to this site !

So Ravinder Ravi is finally out. Agreed he is not the best singer, but the public has voted him,. As this is the format of the show, i had hoped the judges and the hosts would show some maturity and respect the opinion, instead of humiliating him episode after episode. I am sure any other contestent would have gone into depression after hearing those comments , so i think Ravinder was courageous enough to go through the gala round ??
By the who brought him to mumbai?? it was this panel of judges. if the feel he doesnt have knowledge of sur and taal, they should have rejected him in the first round itself
I think the judges remarks are extremely biased.
i like amit sana and abhijeet. rahul seems to be over confident

Well, i am new to this forum and to be brutally honest, Indian Idol had the makings of a great show, had it not been rigged from day one. YES!!! The show has been rigged from day one. There is ample proof for this. Let me list the credible proofs:
1. I belong to the media industry and as any other mediaman, we all have inside information. my closest friend is part of the Indian Idol show as he is one of the technicians working in the background. Although he has been sworn to secrecy and he has signed a contract, he did confide in me that the show was rigged from day one.

2. Also, the shooting for the episodes is done all in advance and what we see is not the LIVE! version but something which has been recorded a few days ago. Which means that the one who has to go out is selected by Sony itself and the contestants are also aware of all this and they have been paid generously and have been offered a lot of publicity and fame to keep their mouths shut. When you get royal treatment like the ones which the contestants are getting, then why would you divulge the secrets?Right?

3. The votes that we send are all fake and its all a money making process for Sony and Orange. My friend tells me that Sony does not get any messages and the 3 rupees that Orange charges is shared between Sony and Orange.

4. Most Important Proof: Remember the singer Madhushree who performed for the tsunami relief on the Indian Idol show with the other singers? Yes, the same madhushree. Well, my fiance works for her personally and shares an excellent rapport with her. Madhushree told my fiancee that the show was rigged and that Sonu Nigam himself had given her the info. as to how it was done. However, to Madhushree's credit, she did not divulge the name of the contestant who would become the Indian Idol to my fiancee, since she has signed an agreement with Sony which prohibits her from doing so!!!

Any comments????

Reading all your comments one thing is loud and clear that Ravinder was or is every bodys favourite and have won all our hearts. I think he is immensely talented, he has terrific sound quality which as of now is untamed but once trained properly he would leave everybody behind. Judges and hosts were far too harsh on him. How can he be held responsible for other participants going out? Anyways there is gogin to be only one india idol rest of the people will have to leave so why blame Ravinder for it ? I was shocked to hear Aman verma (the idiot who himself copies Amitabh bacchan style of hosting..remember KBC), when he asked Ravinder what does his mates think of his singing ?? What and obnoxious comment from an anchor?? He is supposed to be fair to and all. The kind of treatment ravinder has been given is too bad and it just shows how biased the judges/anchors are for the fav. contestants. I am pretty sure he ws not out because he didnt get enough votes but was kicked out by the interference of the judges. There is no question of him getting less votes when we all love hiim so much.
As for Rahul vaidya this guy is a complete FAKE and is always trying to flatter the judges..I think Abhijeet and Amit Sana are too good and I would pray to GOD and Indian Public to choose one of them as an Indian idol. They are great singers and very humble and down to earth. Getting them and not Rahul vaidya to become an Indian Idol would be a fitting tribute to Ravinders unfair exit from the competition.

I agree with Amit totally. Sana or Abhijit should be the Indian Idol. Rahul is very arrogant and has got only 1 style of singing andd seems like a sonu nigam carbon copy. Sana's voice is amazing and Abhijit is improving by the minute. I wish them both the very best.

I think Ravinder was a fabulous singer for some songs, he absolutely sung better in Punjabi touch songs. Three judges were to rude towards him, that is not tolrable, if you have given the judgement in the public hands so why these fool judges were insulting the public, they shuld not be there for next shows.

Ravinder Ravi a name of painter who can sing well and he was in top ten selected by the telanted, rude, stupid judges. They all seems very haughty. But now i don't want to ctitisize them, i would like to appreciate the spirit and confidence of the poor painter, who sang well till his last show, and in the condition when judges were dominating him in every episode. Judges were sarcasting over public but they should remember that its only a public which have given them publicity. So Anu, Frha and sonu don't be so rude over ........

The Judges DID NOT bring Ravinder into Top 10. It was public. He made it to TOP 30 thanks to them but after that it was public. In any case, I think, one must not forget the way judges at American Idol treat the participants. They are more brash than Farah and Co.

I personally fail to understand, why we forget that Ravinder was a mediocre singer. His forte is punjabi singing and he is good at it. A singer must have versatality and ofcourse he should have personality because people are going to SEE him perform.

Looks do matter. Imagine Ravinder's posetsr adorning the streets. How many people will take a second look at it. IDOL means someone you look upto-- someone who encompasses everything.

And even if you don't care about looks, what about personality? The man does not even have that! And do not forget, his voice does not have versatality.

By the Way, those who know little about American Blacks...they are the ones who introduced whites to pop, ragge, hip hiop and stuff! So blacks have it in their genes.

Comparing eRavinder with them is too ambitious a thought!

Most people seem to be biased towards Ravindar. The show from day one has had its focus clear..one who...sings well..is a performer..and has showmanship qualities...and looks...dont make much a difference..but audiences do like ppl who look good. Ravindar Ravi, lets face it..doesnt hv knowledge of music..he's like any one of us..bathroom singers..and thats the reason..why we sympathize with him. But ppl dont forget, it were the judges who got him here..I think judges are good..theyhad clear focus of what they wanted. If you have even a lilttle knowledge of music..u know..Ravi has sung very badly. So, hope that the best one wins..these guys are very talented.

I am a doctor, busy working for 24 hours sometimes. I used to take off from my work and see Indian idol. Not because I like the show but for the sake of only one man who was favorite amongst many of my colleagues. Since last 5 weeks Judges were passing unwanted remarks about him. And I would say Ravinder was enough gentleman to handle it. One thing you all must have noted that during show Ravinder would sit alone and aloof while other contestants would hold each other hands and support each other. What did that point out?? Just because he belongs to a poor background they wanted him to separate out??
As far as the last show was concerned he was far better than Prajakta..I liked his simplicity and humbleness. I’ll miss him...wherever he will go, he will have good wishes of lakhs of people like me. Now I am least bother about who will be the Indian Idol. The show is over for many people like me.

There are various thoughts floating, but these are the ones I'd like to put here primarily:

1. The treatment meted out to Ravinder Ravi by the judges, comperes and (towards the end) even the co-participants was disgraceful. He wasn't there in the last 10 or 8 or 5 because he wanted to be there. He was there because a gazillion people out there were voting for him. Which means that they liked him. So I don't see any reason for the attitude these guys were flushing around.

2. I didn't have any respect for anu malik (alleged molester (I didn't say that, the press did) and song/music plagiarist [well known fact :)]), mini mathur (no talent/poor dress sense) and aman whatsisname (pompous loudmouth, non-actor); but farah khan and even sonu nigam disappointed with their condescending attitude. Why was it necessary to be rude? And rude only to Ravi?

3. Why do I get the feeling that this show is rigged, and heading toward a predetermined conclusion? Big studio bosses say "Lets get a pretty boy/girl who can sing and lets make him/her win". I see subsequent exits in this order: Sana (great voice, but a face only mom could love?) and Sawant (Plain, staid Jack?). Then its a toss up between pretty boy Vaidya and pretty girl Shukre. If you have a feel for music, this may not be the end result you are seeking.

Let me be honest here - I am an unabashed Ravinder Ravi fan, and perhaps he didn't deserve to win, I was pissed with the way the program, the judges and the comperes treated him. Every time they insulted him, I voted (no i didn't do it for the "diamond jewelry"). I strongly believe Ravi has good music sense (when he sang in punjabi, he was good). And I hope that the Indian Idol is the beginning of the road for him, not the end.

Meanwhile, I am no longer interested in knowing the predetermined result of India Idol.

PS: I purposely insulted the "judges" (hate to call them that), comperes and a few participants earlier in this mail - I hope they read it so they can get a feel of what it feels like to be humiliated in public.

I am happy that Ravinder is out at last. It is because of him that Rahul was out who was much more talented than him. Also, we should keep in mind what are we exactly looking for, someone who is good at singing, presentable or both the qualities. I guess Ravinder was lacking both these qualities and it was sheer luck and sympathy that he came in the top 5

i think the judges should not demoralise any singer by making unnecessary remarks ,rather they should tell them to improve in the next round.I would only ask one question from Farah and Anu is can they sing on the stage and i bet that they wont get more than 10 votes.Do u remember Anu sang BAHAR BARISH HO RAHI HAI,where is the sur and taal in that song. One should not be biased.

I feel this program is for good lookers not for good voices.... for different purpose. (I am pointing towards Anu malik). It was rediculous in the show the three judges were prasing each other. Ravinder is really a good singer for two reasons he has not got any training and he is singing in tremendous pressure without favour of anybody on stage. I did not like responses by Anu (is he a Music director?) and Farah Khan on Ravinder as well little bit on Amit Sana.

the judges stated that indian idol would be a show piece for international community. we have not even heard the name of the american idol. so much for international status. in other countries, undoubtedly only indians or those interested in indian languages would only see the show. why so much importance for looks and personality? did the judges have the personality they now advocate when they commenced their career? even the anchors had virtually bad words for ravinder ravi. one person one vote would have shown the truth behind the real winner. hindi may be spoken by more people, but it is not the sle language that represents india. the organisers could have selected eminent personalities like asha bhonsle, usha uthup, udit narayan et. al. who are very mature, to function as judges. this would have lent more credence to the show.

thank god!!!!!!!!!!!!!ravinder has gone. he was the greatest hinderence in other contestants success. it was because of him theat we lost wonderful contestants like rahul saxena, visha kothari and aditi paul. he was always worst amongst all the contestants.
among tha last 4 left, ABHIJEET IS THE BEST.
according to me the ranking goes as follows:-
1. ABHIJJET SAWANT
2. RAHUL VAIDYA
3. AMIT SANA
4. PRAJKTA SHUKRE
the judges r really doindg a wonderful job. especially sonuji.
abhijeet and amit have a different and original voice. they have got something new in them. prajakta shukre is next alka yagnik in the making. and rahul has a very coomon voice. any guy who sings well has a voice like him.
as only last 4 r left , according to me there should be change in format of the programme. the cpmpetititon should be made more challanging. contestants should be given very very less time for preparation. they should be made to sing on the spot.

i HAVE to Agree with "The Karvs". Ravinder Ravi is no deserveing candidate for Indian Idol. One should appreciate the hard work he has put in. But, it is sad that 5 other amazing singers have lost a shot at the big prize because of the people who voted for him. It shows that all he got was sympathy votes. And just to put in my views had there been judges like Alka yagnik, Ravinder Ravi would not even have made it to the Final 30. He has a good voice, but one that is untrained. No one can be blamed for that. Its his fate. Its a good thing that he is out, now Music lovers like me can watch the show without fear of one of the better singers getting out because of "zilch-music-knowledge" people who vote for him just because he is a painter.

I agree with all the comments made here about the judges of Indian Idol. They are too harsh. What training does Farah has in dancing but she is a succesfull dance director and thus a judge at Indian Idol. What does Anu Malik do, steal music from other music directors?? what does he know about music??? Same is with Sonu Nigam. I feel that none of the three judges qualify to become a judge. From the very beginning all three were singling out Ravinder Ravi, making him uncomfortable in front of them. Next round of Indian Idol, Sony should bring some other mature people with better knowledge as judges.

Like Farah said about Abhijeet : "Lambi Race ka ghoda". It holds true in each and every sense. He picked up when it was time to.!! and when others kept fading away he made his performances more and more remarkable.

"O majhi re" was simply hair-raising which came just after a simply superb - "Dil Chahta Hai" track. Must say Raju Singh did a great background work on it, which helped Abhijeet's performance become greater.

His body language gives him a great screen-presence which, I guess is a very important factor in being a - "Indian Idol".

Nutshell :- Abhijeet has all attributes to become "Any Idol".
